Sabres Lose to Lightning
The Sabres just could not get the puck past goaltender Mike Smith as many times as they needed which resulted in the 5-3 loss. The loss ended the Sabres 7 game win streak in Tampa even though stars Lecavalier and St. Louis were held without a point. Lighting the lamp for Buffalo was Derek Roy (2) and Kotalik. Buffalo would get several chances on their 34 shots on net, but failed to get any good bounces. Tampa was more fortunate with bounces, scoring at least 2 goals that could have easily not been. A turning point in the game was when Buffalo was 5 seconds away from the end of the 2nd period before an errant clearing attempt by Lydman got kept in and found its way into the net on the ensuing shot. Ryan Miller cannot be blamed really for the game as 3 of the goals I remember were on screens in front. The Sabres now get a break for the all star break until they return to action out West in Edmonton. Defensemen Henrik Tallinder left the game with an upper body injury and there has been no report as of late on his status. I will keep you updated when I find out, but it seems as if Hank will miss an extended period of time. This will cause the front office to make some call up’s from Portland as our D-Corps has been severely depleted.
